Language refers to the words that we use, the contexts in which we use them, and the way we understand the words that others around us are using.
Expressive Language disorders impact our ability to express or share our thoughts, ideas, and feelings.
Receptive Language disorders impact our ability to understand the what those around us are saying.
Pragmatic Language refers to our ability to communicate in social settings. These skills include varying speech style, taking others perspectives, understanding and using the rules of social communication, and understanding non-verbal communication.
Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) are abnormal movement patterns of the face and mouth that may impact the normal growth, development, muscles, and structure of the face and mouth. OMDs may also interfere with how the muscles of the face and mouth are used for eating, talking, and breathing.
This program focuses on the behavior of digit/tongue/thumb/object sucking. By targeting the "why" behind these behaviors we can work to address these triggers and effectively eliminate the behavior.
Treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders includes exercises to strengthen and coordinate movements of the face and mouth as well as collaboration with other professionals to work to addresses current structural abnormalities.
